The Society for Companion Animal Studies (SCAS) is delighted to announce that its 2019 conference, ‘Companion Animals and Us: One Welfare’, being held at The College of Animal Welfare in Cambridgeshire on Saturday 21 September, is open for registration.

This year’s event explores the concept of ‘One Welfare’; the idea that animal welfare, human wellbeing and the environment are all intrinsically linked, and that interactions between them should be to the benefit of all. Presentations on thought provoking, and sometimes controversial, topics will provide a platform for an afternoon of workshop discussions. Delegates will have opportunities to exchange ideas and to network.

We are delighted to welcome a great line up of speakers; Dr Elizabeth Ormerod, Dr Anne McBride, Clifford Warwick, Vicki Betton and Debbie Rook. Our conference Chair is eminent veterinary surgeon Chris Laurence.

The day will explore animal ownership, of both exotic and domestic pets, and also assistance animal partnerships. Speakers will discuss what can go wrong, how we can help people to make informed choices, and the support needed to help maintain healthy relationships that are beneficial to both animal and owner. The current situation regarding pet keeping policies in social and privately rented housing in the UK and overseas, and the impact this has on people and their pets, will also be discussed.

There is also the opportunity to submit an abstract for poster presentation. Perhaps you have carried out research in human animal interactions and want to share your findings? Or you may be a practitioner in animal assisted interventions and want to inspire others with your work? Abstracts must be submitted by Thursday 20 June 2019 by completing and returning the form which can be downloaded from the SCAS website.

Prices start at just £45 for students and SCAS members. An early bird rate of £75 is available to non-members until 30 June 2019. For more information or to book a place visit http://www.scas.org.uk/2019-scas-conference/.
