Vets Michael Hendry and Chris Edwards are retiring at the end of the month from the practice they joined over 30 years ago. The decision to retire was always going to be an emotional one, however both agree that it has been made much easier knowing they are handing it over to a familiar face who will continue to nurture and develop the practice for many years to come.

Having worked at the practice for the last six months, Vet Emma Leyland is delighted to be taking on her ‘dream job’ of running the practice going forwards. “Emma is an excellent vet and a wonderful person, we know our legacy is not only in safe hands with her, but that she has some exciting plans for its future which we are in full support of” said Mr Edwards.

Refurbishment of reception and the frontage is already underway, with further redevelopment planned for the near future. The practice is also moving to an appointment only system to reduce waiting times, something that has been met with great approval by clients who have already been consulted on this.

Emma is also looking forward to launching a preventative health care scheme called The Pet Health Club, giving owners the option to pay a reduced fee for their pets annual preventative care treatments. “It’ll give clients the peace of mind that their pets preventative care is all taken care of, they get reminders to come in and pick up flea and worming treatments, an extra health check 6 months after their pets’ annual vaccination booster, pet food at cost price as well as lots of other offers and benefits from joining the scheme” says Emma.

But it’s not all change at Bishop, Hendry & Edwards, the rest of the team of 2 more vets, 3 nurses and 4 support staff, remain the same. Long standing vet Barbara Kurbelova, will be taking on the advanced dermatology cases previously treated by Mr Edwards and pets will still be fussed on arrival by the regular friendly staff.

Whilst no one can ever replace Chris and Michael, Emma describes falling in love with the warmth of the clients that she has met at the practice since September and it is clear that she is every bit as passionate about the care and service available to the pets and their owners in and around Newport as her predecessors.

We hope you will join us in wishing Michael Hendry and Chris Edwards a very happy retirement and fondly welcome Emma Leyland to Bishop, Hendry & Edwards Vets.
