A commitment to enhancing the business and management skills of veterinary practice teams in the UK is key to Pfizer’s Vet Support+ Business Services’ decision to sponsor the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons (SPVS) and Veterinary Practice Management Association (VPMA) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) series. By helping to deliver CPD appropriate for the entire team, from the vet nurse to the practice principal, Vet Support+ also demonstrates the practical, hands-on nature of its Business Services as two of the sessions are being delivered by Pfizer Business Consultants. Led by the demands of the SPVS and VPMA membership, the programme brings together some of the best presenters and trainers in the profession, as well as new providers from other industries to ensure excellence in content and first rate delivery. The first session, Managing Performance, will be led by two Business Consultants from the Pfizer team, Simon Fowler and Fiona Sims. The one day introduction to simple personality modelling will help delegates to understand themselves and their colleagues better. They will learn how to apply this in practice, whether in appraisals, conflict resolution or team motivation. Sticking to the organisers’ aim to deliver CPD with practical and tangible benefits, each participant will receive a follow up telephone coaching session once they return to their workplace and begin to put their new skills into practice. The practical nature of the first session sets the scene for the remainder of the series, which encourages delegates to use the events to share their experiences. This collaborative approach enables participants to gain useful insights to the challenges and opportunities faced not just by themselves, but also their peers in this challenging time for the industry. Other sessions include; Practice-focused Employment Law, with a Human Touch! – How to stay within the law without wrapping yourself up in red tape. Top 10 Tips to Improve Profitability – How does your practice compare against the national average on key financial indicators such as turnover per vet or spend per client? Successful Recruitment – Essential skills and strategy to ensure you get the right people (and retain them). Smart Talking – Successful communication is essential for a happy practice and good clinical outcomes. Actors will help role play different scenarios to help participants build their confidence in listening and talking both to clients and other members of the practice team. Your Practice; Your Rules – How to raise standards and skills without stifling individuality or confidence. Health and Safety Essentials – A practical update, refresher or introduction to current requirements and legislation. Websites, Facebook, Twitter and Tweets – A two-day back to back course; the first for social networking beginners, the second for those with more experience.
