A series of six podcasts are now available for veterinary practitioners following a recent conference where leading veterinary parasitologists warned that endo and ecto-parasites currently prevalent in Europe are heading to UK shores.
‘A Parasitic Journey through Europe’, held at the Langford School of Veterinary Science was hosted by ESCCAP UK (European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites) and sponsored by Bayer HealthCare Animal Health and Novartis Animal Health. “There are a number of factors that will lead to the spread of parasites to the UK not least global warming, pet travel, lack of preventative measures and natural transmission,” says Maggie Fisher, ESCCAP director and UK member. “Our research clearly indicates the future spread and what will happen in the UK if preventative measures are not taken seriously by vets and pet owners alike.”
The podcasts are available to download at www.esccap.org.
ESCCAP was founded in 2005 and by a group of eminent European veterinary practitioners and leaders in veterinary Parasitology and veterinary health. ESCCAP strives to heighten awareness relating to small animal parasites and the associated risks to humans by informing and working with veterinary practitioners and professionals. In adopting this approach, one of the desirable outcomes is that responsible pet ownership will be enhanced through increased knowledge.2246 views
