Amoxycillin plus clavulanic acid tablets have been the most widely used antibacterials in dogs and cats for many years. Providing an improvement for such a well established product requires inspiration and innovation and set a challenge to Alstoe Animal Health. Using the product at the standard dose of 10mg/kg ammoxycillin and 2.5mg/kg clavulanic acid allowed dosing of up to 4kg with a single tablet of the old brands. This poses a problem to veterinary practices who are increasingly being presented with cats between 4-6 kilos in bodyweight. Also, smaller dogs of less than 10kg can be hard to dose accurately.
