ROYAL CANIN® specialists in weight management tackled the difficult subject of feline obesity at this year’s London Vet Show. Hosting a well-attended roundtable event, ‘Tackling Fat Cats’, a panel of experts shared the message that cats are not a lost cause when it comes to obesity. Dr. Sandra McCune, Professor Alex German and Sam Taylor from ISFM, all provided practical solutions in how we can help prevent and manage obesity in cats.

This year’s London Vet Show, also saw ROYAL CANIN officially launch their Weight Management Congress. With an objective to engage vets in weight management and hone their skills and knowledge to truly make a difference to the lives of cats and dogs, ROYAL CANIN’s Weight Management Specialists will host a two-day interactive event from the 21st to the 22nd of February 2018.

Delegates will experience a packed schedule of lectures and workshops delivered by Key Opinion Leaders including Prof. Alex German, Georgia Woods, Brian Faulkner, Briony Alderson, Sandra McCune and Jon Bowen.

The specialist event will cover topics including; the science of obesity, the human-animal interaction, anaesthetic risks, the effect of obesity on feline behaviours and the business of obesity. The event concludes with a round table discussion to explore the responsibility surrounding overweight and obese pets.

Caroline Burke, a Weight Management Specialist at ROYAL CANIN, said: “We have recognised the need to provide further education to support the veterinary profession to help understand the serious nature of obesity and how to communicate this to pet owners.

“The Weight Management Congress is the latest tool in our Weight Management Academy, and we look forward to inviting and welcoming veterinary surgeons to the Nottingham Belfry to learn more about this incurable disease. At the end of the two days we hope that all attendees will feel more confident in recognising and managing obesity back in practice.”
