Senior Hire At Pennard Vets
Independent veterinary group, Pennard Vets, has appointed Roger Bishton as its new chief financial and operating officer, as the employee-owned and B-Corp certified business continues its growth across Kent.
With more than 20 years’ experience in international and high-growth organisations, Roger brings a wealth of board-level expertise in financial strategy, operational leadership and business transformation to his new role. His background includes senior finance roles in both venture capital and private equity-backed businesses, with proven success in strategic planning, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, and organisational change.
Roger will oversee Pennard Vets’ financial operations, performance management and business efficiency across its eight practices, from Tonbridge to Maidstone, as well as its recently opened flagship hospital in Sevenoaks.
Roger said: “I’m very proud to join Pennard Vets. Founded in 1890, they have been around even longer than me! Pennard Vets proudly upholds the traditions of proper independent veterinary service and pet care that goes beyond the ordinary. It’s a privilege to join a business with such a wonderful and loyal client base, that is supported by a great team of super-skilled and caring people. It’s also exciting to be joining as an employee owner, just like every member of the team at Pennard Vets, we are all stakeholders in the business.”
Matthew Flann, director at Pennard Vets, added: “Roger’s experience in finance and operational leadership will be invaluable as Pennard Vets continues to evolve. His strategic insight and passion for innovation align perfectly with our purpose-driven, employee-owned structure and commitment to sustainable veterinary care. His appointment will allow our team to operate more efficiently, giving them even more time to focus on caring for our clients and their pets.”
Founded in Sevenoaks in 1890, Pennard Vets employs more than 170 team members across its eight Kent practices. In 2021, it became the largest veterinary practice in the world to transfer into employee ownership, and in 2022, it became the first in Europe to achieve B-Corp certification. Pennard Vets’ Sevenoaks hospital recently underwent a significant upgrade to become a state-of-the-art, full-service facility, featuring advanced diagnostic technology including on-site CT and MRI scanners.
