The Animal Health Trust, in partnership with The British Horse Society, has launched a campaign to increase awareness of Strangles. We are also hoping to raise £250,000 over the next two years to fund research into the next stages of the development of improved means of diagnosis and prevention - ultimately to eradicate this terrible disease.
The Campaign was launched on 1st February by the President of the Animal Health Trust, HRH The Princess Royal at the Royal Society of Medicine, London.
Aside from securing future funding for this vital research programme, an important purpose of the Strangles Campaign is to increase the level of understanding among owners, riders and all those responsible for the health and welfare of horses.
The Campaign has been supported via a series of ‘Roadshows’ to reach the Press in all UK regions. Members of the media were given an informative presentation by staff of the AHT and BHS.
The Princess Royal said “This is the beginning of a serious campaign that could make a real difference in welfare and economic terms to those involved in the equine industry.”
