Warsaw University during their exchange to Bristol
SUCCESSFUL INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMME FOR VET STUDENTS

An international student exchange event, which saw students from Poland travel to the UK, has been hailed a success.
Bristol University recently played host to 12 veterinary students from Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland, who travelled over for a series of joint activities.
The event was supported and sponsored by Vets4Pets and supported by the International Veterinary Student Association (IVSA).
Students attended lectures and practicals at Bristol University, enjoyed a tour of the Vets4Pets Bristol Imperial practice and were treated to a sightseeing tour of the city.
“It was a fantastic event, which the students thoroughly enjoyed and learnt a great deal from,” said Marta Dadun, one of the students from Warsaw University of Life Sciences.
“The practicals, including one on pathology, caught the attention of our students, and we can only thank Bristol University and Vets4Pets for helping to make this trip possible.
“It was also fascinating to visit at a modern UK veterinary practice, and meet the Vets4Pets team to see first-hand the care they provide to pets.”
The exchange is part of a wider IVSA programme which provides opportunities for students from outside the UK to experience the veterinary profession and education institutes in different countries worldwide.
Evie Hodgson, a 4th year vet student at Bristol University and the senior representative for the IVSA, said: “It’s important that students from different countries get to experience a wide variety of veterinary practice.
“We’re delighted to be able to help veterinary students from across the globe learn about the UK veterinary industry.
“To make these exchange visits happen we have to fundraise through the year, which is why we’re so grateful for the financial support from Vets4Pets, it has made a huge difference to this, and future, visits.”
Similar exchanges are planned in the future, and Vets4Pets are looking forward to partnering with IVSA on similar initiatives.
The university is already planning the 2019 exchange and is hoping to eventually have two trips every year.
“We’re really pleased to play a small part in helping veterinary students further their experiences, particularly on educational visits like this exchange,” said Dr Cat Curtis BVM&S MRCVS, veterinary talent manager at Vets4Pets.
“Supporting the development of students is vital to our profession if we’re to continue providing the best veterinary care to pets in the UK.
“We especially feel it’s important to support student-led initiatives, where they have used their own initiative to get them off the ground. This is a great example where it’s something that really is making a difference to students not just here but outside the UK as well.”
