SUPPORT FOR HOMELESS DOGS REACHES STREETS OF BIRIMGHAM

StreetVet and Vets4Pets have joined forces to support homeless dogs in Birmingham.
It’s StreetVet’s first venture into the Midlands, having already committed to ongoing outreach activity on the streets of London, Bristol, Brighton, Plymouth and Cambridge.
The award-winning RCVS registered practice seeks out people and their dogs living rough, delivering free care and support required to ensure of their combined wellbeing.
In Birmingham, dogs found to require more than can be provided at street level, can be referred for further medical or surgical treatment, at one of the local Vets4Pets or Companion Care practices where they will receive ongoing care, free of charge.
Julie Ross, commercial director at Vets4Pets, said: “StreetVet is a fantastic organisaton doing some great work with homeless people and their dogs, and we’re delighted to be able to help with this new scheme in the Midlands.
“This work ties in with our ethos of putting pets first and to help improve pet welfare across the UK.
“Our partnership also means our fantastic veterinary surgeons and vet nurses can help pets less fortunate than most, at a time when they might need it most.”
The partnership will run in Birmingham first, but is hoped to extend across other cities in the coming months.
StreetVet is working with HOPE, Helping Birmingham’s Homeless and Homeless Heroes, in Birmingham.
Since launching in the region, StreetVet volunteers have treated two dogs; one was given a microchip and vaccinations, while another was wormed and is planned to be referred to a Vets4Pets practice for spaying.
“StreetVet is very proud of the support it has received across the veterinary industry, and in this instance Vets4Pets supporting our new project in Birmingham,” said Jade Statt, who is co-founder of StreetVet with Sam Joseph.
“Having the support from Vets4Pets has been vital to establishing this outreach service in the Midlands and we’re looking forward to working together with the Vets4Pets and Companion Care practices.
“Working with like-minded partners, such as Vets4Pets, along with the backing of the wider veterinary profession helps us fulfil our aim to provide care for the homeless and their best friends.”
