Two works of art going under the hammer in an upcoming Modern and Contemporary Art Auction could raise thousands of pounds for the Dogs Trust.

An original oil painting by artist and calligrapher Ahmed Moustafa and a David Hockney signed poster have been generously donated to the charity by supporters and will be auctioned off on 5th October.  The painting has an estimate of £16-20k, with an estimate of £400-600 on the poster.

The International Auction at Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers in Essex will see specialist art collectors place their bids via the internet and phone with commission and in-room bidding.  Bidding is expected on the Dogs Trust items between 2.30pm and 3.30pm during the all-day sale.

Carole Carlton-Smith, Head of Retail Operations at Dogs Trust, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have these items going to auction and cannot thank the two supporters enough for their generosity. The estimate for the oil painting is truly wonderful and we are looking forward to it going to auction.  Every year we raise four million pounds through our 31 charity shops and two depots. The possibility of raising up to £20,000 through the sale of one item is a very exciting prospect.

“Thank you to everyone at Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers who have been so helpful and are selling the item at no cost to the Dogs Trust which means every penny raised will go towards caring for the dogs in our rehoming kennels.”

Amy Scanlon, Paintings Specialist and Head of Modern and Contemporary Art at Sworders, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer these two works for such a good cause. The Moustafa still life is an early work by the artist from 1974, while the Hockney poster featuring his two dachshunds Stanley and Boodgie is such a loveable image.”

Lot 301 is ‘New Drawings, Salt Mill’ 1994, offset lithographic signed by David Hockney.

Lot 302 by Ahmed Moustafa is ‘Still Life with Cherub’ 1974, an oil on canvas in original artist’s frame, sold with certificate of authenticity.
