The Paul O Grady Shows Vet Marc Abraham Voted Britains Favourite Vet

The end of the award season came to a fantastic high last night as up and coming celebrity vet Marc Abraham – a regular on The Paul O’Grady Show – won the Petplan Special Recognition Award at the 8th Petplan Veterinary Awards. Marc beat other celebrity vets such as veteran Bruce Fogle and Scandinavian Trude Mostue for the title of Britain’s favourite celebrity vet. The great British public voted in their thousands and overwhelmingly decided that Marc was the most deserving of this ‘Oscar’. Marc’s volunteering and charity work balances his more high profile television career, which has catapulted him globally, as he is due to guest star on a Hollywood TV show in May. Petplan is the world’s leading provider of pet health insurance and hosts the annual Veterinary Awards each April. This year the awards included a new category designed to recognise the invaluable work of popular celebrity vets who highlight and champion animal health and welfare issues in the media with regular TV appearances, documentaries and charity work. The Special Recognition Award was the only award that invited animal lovers to vote for the vet they felt was the most deserving and had gone that extra mile. The nominees were:Along side the Paul O’Grady Show, Marc also appears on the hit TV show ‘It’s me or the Dog’ offering veterinary advice. He is based in Brighton and runs the Priory Emergency Treatment Service (PETS) an out-of-hours emergency service which provides exclusive cover for 10 local practices. Marc is currently preparing a documentary about British Donkey charity, Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land, and frequently gives talks at local schools and care homes about how to respect and preserve our environment. Marc was presented his award by fellow TV vet Scott Miller last night at the award ceremony in Birmingham. An over the moon Marc had this to say: “Television is such a powerful medium. As TV vets we are lucky to be in a position where we can change people’s attitudes towards animals, encouraging responsible pet-ownership and improving the lives of our four-legged friends. I’m just glad to be playing a small part in all this.” Other categories at the awards included:
