A renowned veterinary referral centre in Basildon has further grown its neurology and neurosurgery team with three new appointments.

Veronica Gonzalo Nadal, Hamish Glover and Virginia Crespo have all joined Linnaeus-owned Southfields Veterinary Specialists at its state-of-the-art 42,000 sq ft Essex animal hospital.

Veronica, who has been appointed as a clinician in veterinary and neurosurgery, graduated from the University of Murcia in 2012 and has worked as a first opinion vet, as well as enrolling on two rotating internships.

Before joining Southfields, Veronica completed her MVM and Neurology programme at the University of Glasgow.

Veronica, who aims to become a diplomate, said: “I will oversee my own medical and surgical cases at Southfields but also give support to residents and interns by supervising them.”

Outside of work, Veronica likes to socialise with friends and family, as well as hiking with her dog Pisto, dancing salsa and cooking.

Hamish has joined Southfields as a neurology intern and is looking forward to the challenge of a new position and a new hospital.

He graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2021 before moving to a first opinion practice in the north-east and then a rotating internship in Cheshire before joining Southfields.

Hamish said: “I’ve recently had a case report published about a case of an aortic thrombus in a dog, related to pregnancy and surgery. It is the first documented case of its kind in terms of diagnosis and very good outcome.”

Away from work, Hamish enjoys keeping fit and also loves cooking and travelling.

Virginia is a European Specialist in Veterinary Neurology and takes on the role of a neurology clinician at Southfields.

She graduated from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, followed by a rotating internship at the same university.

Among other career highlights she undertook a three-year European residency in neurology at the University of Bristol, where she also obtained an MSc.

Virginia was awarded her ECVN diploma in 2022 and outside of work she enjoys travelling, cooking and catching up with friends.

Southfields, which moved into its cutting-edge Basildon hospital last summer, offers specialist services such as anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, radiation and soft tissue surgery.
