Cherrydown Vets Earns Praise With National Sustainability Award
A popular vet practice in Essex has earned a national environmental award in recognition of its drive to cut waste and increase sustainability.
Linnaeus-owned Cherrydown Vets, which has practices in Basildon, Stanford Le Hope and Wickford, has received a bronze award from national campaigners Investors in the Environment (iiE).
Cherrydown’s expert team is delighted and already examining ways to further reduce the carbon footprint across the three practices in a bid to gain a silver award next, and ultimately the iiE’s most prestigious Green award.
Cherrydown’s Green Champion Matilda Mackay said: “It’s terrific to earn this bronze award, which illustrates the commitment of the staff to increase our sustainability and reduce waste and emissions.
“We see this as just the start, though, and are determined to keep working hard to drive down our carbon footprint in pursuit of further recognition from iiE.
“The next level is a silver award so that will be our focus now and hopefully one day we’ll be celebrating the iiE’s ultimate Green award, too!”
The official iiE report recognises Cherrydown’s potential to improve further and has even advised them on next steps.
The report reads: “The Green Champion has demonstrated a strong commitment to understanding and improving Cherrydown Vets’ environmental performance.
“The practice has undertaken several actions to manage resource consumption such as switching all lights to LEDs, switching to reusable products where possible, and implementing an effective switch-off procedure.
“Cherrydown has also implemented an outstanding waste management system with several waste streams including mascara wands which are used in a wildlife hospital.
“Improvements would include implementing a process to review resource consumption data on at least a six-monthly basis in order to track progress against reduction targets and develop action plans.
“Creating a travel plan and a staff travel survey would help to understand the practice’s travel requirements and inform actions and encourage greater engagement with sustainability across the practice.”
