Following the huge success of the UK’s first Pet Allergy Week (PAW) in 2015, which saw over 500 practices take part in the initiative, registration is now open for PAW 2016, say the organisers Avacta Animal Health.

This year’s Pet Allergy Week initiative is set for June 6-12 and once again aims to help veterinary practices raise awareness of allergies in cats and dogs. Avacta head of marketing, Joanne Soundy, says that allergic symptoms resulting from allergies are cited as one of the most common reasons for a consult. “We know there is still much more we can do to help raise awareness of allergy related conditions among pet owners,” she says.

“It is important to create more opportunities for vets to examine pets whose owners may be unaware that they are suffering, and who may benefit from an allergy test followed by recommendations for appropriate treatment and management,” adds Joanne.

“In its first year over 500 practices took part in the PAW initiative which was an amazing result and demonstrates that there is a real need for the campaign. With many of last year’s participants already making plans for the week, we’re expecting a significant increase in uptake this year,” she explains.

Practices can sign up to receive a ‘PAW pack’ containing promotional display materials to create an exciting and informative waiting room display, with the most creative display winning a prize, says Joanne. “In addition, and to support the promotion for those who register and receive a PAW pack, Avacta is also providing discounted tests throughout the whole month of June.

“There is a wealth of client facing information in the packs including a ‘Signs and Symptoms’ poster; a strapline banner ‘Raising Awareness of Dog & Cat Allergies’; and a call to Action banner ‘Give your pet the best, ask for SENSITEST today’, as well as literature and posters. The pack also includes a competition for the best PAW waiting room display – the practice that shows the best use of materials will win a prize!”
