A veterinary exclusive nutraceutical range of skin and joint supplements developed using unique ingredients has just been launched to vets in the UK.

The Natural VetCare Prescribed Range has been formulated following over twenty years of dedicated research into chronic joint and skin conditions says Natural VetCare’s chosen partner, Avacta Animal Health.

Avacta’s commercial manager, Hayley Booth, explains: “The result is a range of highly complex formulations, with a broad spectrum of ingredients selected for their unique properties, each supporting the efficacy of another.”

Shown in independent trials¹-¹0 led by Dr Nicholas Larkins BVSc DSc MRCVS, research and development of the CANI and FELI range has focused specifically on issues in dogs and cats, says Hayley. “This is in parallel with ground breaking discoveries in the powers of phytonutrients in human arthritis,” she adds.

“The outcome is a range of highly complex formulations, with each ingredient being chosen for its unique properties to support specific functions. Many ingredients of the CANI and FELI range are multi-factorial and are proven to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, gut support and targeted nutritional benefits.”

The CANI and FELI products have been developed via the same R&D that brought the first nutraceutical to the UK market over thirty years ago and has continued to lead the way, explains Hayley. “Continued demand for a veterinary range with proven quality and efficacy has led to a bespoke range of products to meet the specific needs of individual species.”

The launch follows an in-field trial in which vets and vet nurses were invited to trial the range on their own pets. One such participant was vet nurse, Lynne Virgo, of Hounslow based Young Veterinary Partnership. Her Australian Shepherd, Harvey, who recently attended Crufts, made a significant improvement in just one week. “After just a few days on CANI SKIN I had a dog that I could stroke without him tearing himself apart,” explains Lynne.

Diagnosed with pruritus caused by grass allergies, since starting CANI SKIN Harvey has been able to come off his steroids explains Lynne. “I now have a dog that actually enjoys being groomed, in fact he is generally more relaxed, happier and more settled in himself, and not always on the hunt for food!” she adds.

The range is manufactured in the UK by Natural VetCare and includes four products in total. “CANI FLEX is designed to support the body’s anti-inflammatory response with a powerful antioxidant formula, which rebalances the system by addressing excess free-radical build up around the joint following injury or wear and tear. CANI FLEX Senior also targets joint, heart and brain health and encourages increased activity.

“With allergies becoming more and more prolific, CANI SKIN and FELI SKIN target one of the most complex issues facing vets and pet owners in today’s environment. The formulations are designed to resolve the body's hypersensitivity by balancing the immune response.

“The result is the correct ratio of actives which combine to rebalance the T cell response in the gut, in particular where the dysregulated immune system can often be stuck in a T2 response9-¹0. It is this discovery which sets it apart from other, more simple skin supplements,” adds Hayley.

“To ensure veterinary exclusivity, the unique dispensing method has been thoroughly researched and trialed. The easy-to-feed sprinkle capsules sold in individual gold foil pouches are not for sale individually, and boxes of pouches are available direct from veterinary wholesalers only,” she concludes.
