Kelly Harrison from B&W Equine Group in Willesley, near Tetbury, Gloucestershire has won a GoPro Hero 4 camera by logging an equine wound management case as part of Elanco Animal Health’s Equine Wound Progress Project.

The case highlighted by Kelly was a large wound to the pectoral muscle of a Thoroughbred yearling.  It was initially sutured with a drain held in place, but this broke down a week later.  The wound was cleaned and Vulketan was applied daily after cleaning with water.  The wound healed quickly and with no proud flesh with instructions to the owner to give antibiotics and NSAIDs and keep the wound clean with restricted exercise.

Kelly Harrison, veterinary surgeon at B&W Equine Group, comments: “I was very impressed with the effects of Vulketan on the wound.  It healed quicker than expected and with no need to surgically debride proud flesh, which was great.  There will be minimal scarring from this large wound which is a fantastic result.”

Elanco’s Equine Wound Progress Project encourages veterinary surgeons to share their experiences of treating routine wound healing cases.

The project encourages veterinary surgeons to log details and pictures of the wounds they have treated online.  Each individual case study is then entered into a free prize draw for a chance to win one of four GoPro Hero 4 cameras, so the more cases submitted the better!  Plus, every entrant is guaranteed to receive a thermal travel mug as a token of Elanco’s appreciation.
