Delegates to this year’s London Vet Show have the opportunity to win a year’s subscription to Vetlexicon, the world's largest online clinical veterinary reference tool, and a hamper from premium chocolate retailer Hotel Chocolat.  The competition, organised jointly by digital services provider Vetstream and the British Bee Veterinary Association (BBVA), aims to raise awareness of the importance of the veterinary profession in caring for the nation’s bees with everyone entering the competition receiving a packet of free wild flower seeds.

To enter the competition, delegates are asked to visit Vetstream’s stand at the London Vet Show and answer three questions about bees.  They can hand their responses in on the stand (E68) or email their answers, together with their contact details, to [email protected].  The competition will be open until midnight on 30 November 2016.  All those entering on Vetstream’s stand will be given a packet of wild flower seeds, with the winners of the Vetlexicon subscription for two of its services and the chocolate hamper chosen at random and announced following the close of the competition on 30 November.

Vetstream offers a range of digital services to the veterinary profession.  They include Vetlexicon, which offers comprehensive, peer-reviewed digital point-of-care information on the veterinary treatment of dogs (Canis), cats (Felis), rabbits (Lapis) and horses (Equis).  Accessible 24/7 on any internet-enabled device, it is a unique expert resource, which is updated and reviewed by more than 900 of the world's leading veterinarians.

The BBVA, founded in 2015, aims to provide a forum for discussion and continuing professional development for vets interested in bees and to raise awareness of the important role of those in the profession in helping to safeguard bee populations.

Commenting on the competition, Dr John Hill, President of the BBVA, said: “Vets, vet nurses and support staff can all play an important role in helping to preserve our bees and we’re hoping to encourage delegates to the London Vet Show to support our ‘Bee-Friendly Practice Scheme’. Bees need food so, as a first step, we hope they will take the wild flower seeds we will give them and sow them close to their practice if possible.  We also encourage them to plant bee-friendly plants if they have garden or flower borders.”

He continued: “We will be launching a major initiative in 2017 but hope to start to spread the word among delegates to the London Vet Show and to start mobilising the profession to help preserve the bees which play such a vital role in our food chain and environment.”

Dr Mark Johnston, Managing Director of Vetstream, added: “A bee-keeper myself, I am delighted that Vetstream is supporting the BBVA with its important work.

“Digital information is at the heart of the veterinary profession and our resources are being accessed more than a million times around the world every year so we hope London Vet Show delegates will be interested to learn about how we can support them in practice and will be swarming to the stand to enter our competition with the BBVA.  There’s no sting in the tail!”

In addition to Vetlexicon, Vetstream Webpartner offers a suite of website design, online content and digital marketing services designed specifically for the veterinary profession while Vetstream Vetacademy, the company’s user-friendly online learning platform, provides the whole practice team with the ability to search and select from more than 300 courses from the world’s leading training and CPD providers.
