Welsh Farmer Wins Norbrooks Combi Clamp Competition

Norbrook has announced the winner of this year’s Closamectin Combi Clamp competition – an initiative that captured the interest of farmers at livestock shows across the UK earlier this year. Part of Norbrook’s ongoing promotion of responsible animal weighing prior to medicine administration, the competition attracted thousands of entries – with the winner named as Daniel Roberts from Pwllheli, Wales.
Upon hearing that he had won the Ritchie Combi Clamp (worth more than £2,700), Mr Roberts said:
“I am delighted with the news; I keep both sheep and beef cattle, and the Combi Clamp unit will undoubtedly help lighten the load when it comes to handling my sheep. The fact that I can now drench, dag and tag entirely hands-free is going to make a real difference to my working life.”
Mr Roberts’ prize includes not only the clamping device, but also the auxiliary frame and weighing kit – and as Steph Small BVSc MRCVS, Veterinary Advisor for Norbrook, explains, this is a valuable feature when calculating dosing.
“The kit enables easy weighing of individual animals – and this means that sheep farmers can be more confident of accuracy when dosing. For any product to work correctly, weight must be accurately measured. Under-estimation can result in under-dosing, which may allow survival of parasites and is one way resistance can develop, whilst over-estimation may result in overdosing, which may increase the risk of adverse events.”
The competition was run in conjunction with Norbrook’s Closamectin Injection for Cattle and Sheep, which controls fluke, worms and external parasites. Farmers visiting the livestock events had the opportunity to discuss the importance of responsible treatment with Norbrook advisors.

The Combi Clamp was presented on the 8th of November by Norbrook and Wynnstay Rhosfawr, Mr Roberts’ local trade store.
