New small animal veterinary research and a host of opportunities to learn about new innovations have been lined up for BSAVA Virtual Congress 25th – 27th March 2021.

With a programme comprising more than 100 speakers, 80 live sessions and a new format that blends clinical, practical and interactive content, BSAVA Virtual Congress will be underpinning relevant sessions with the latest scientific research.

Dr Penny Watson will be sharing some new ideas about feline liver disease in her session What is the current thinking on feline triaditis: does it even exist?

The brachycephalics stream explores respiratory assessment, BOAS surgery and anaesthesia and the importance of a team approach. The sessions will include discussion of the use of a 3-minute trot test and careful auscultation for laryngeal stridor during BOAS assessment of brachycephalic dogs.

To complement the live programme sessions within each of the 24 modules, the On Demand Stream offers a library of more than 100 freshly recorded webinars and lectures. Dr Holger Volk’s on-demand session Epilepsy management: beyond conventional drugs will explore whether diet or cannabidiol (CBD) can influence anti-epileptic drug response, or even have anti-epileptic properties.

The anaesthesia on demand stream features the webinar Local techniques for celiotomy: new local anaesthetic techniques for celiotomy by Dr Jaime Viscasillas Monteagudo. This session will discuss new ultrasound-guided techniques such as quadratus lumborum block, caudal thoracic paravertebral block, rectus sheath block apart from TAP block and several
approaches for epidural anaesthesia.

“Congress is renowned for giving delegates access to new ideas and the latest knowledge across the disciplines and this year is no exception,” said BSAVA President Professor Ian Ramsey. “We have some exciting new concepts, techniques and ideas being shared over the three days, both live and on demand, as well as some innovative product launches from some of our sponsors.”

Dr Sue Paterson, Chair of the RCVS Education Committee, and Dr Linda Prescott-Clements, RCVS Director of Education, will be presenting a session titled: VetGDP – everything you need to know, which will explain how VetGDP will work for graduates and for veterinary practices.

Clarius, makers of the wireless handheld ultrasound scanner, will be hosting an educational session on practical small animal ultrasound with guest speaker Dr Camilla Edwards, DVM, CertAVP, MRCVS.

Sponsors Zoetis will be holding a session with Dr John Innes covering the disease of osteoarthritis and the role of Nerve Growth Factor in the pain pathway.

Zoetis UK Companion Animal Team said: “We are delighted to be supporting the BSAVA congress again in 2021, as we have been for many years. It is so important for us all to connect at these educational events even if, for now, it can only be virtually. Plus, we look forward to catching up with you during the congress and sharing information on our first, and only, monthly monoclonal antibody for osteoarthritis pain in dogs.”

BSAVA Virtual Congress is also the chosen platform for the launch of new products including IMV Imaging who have a range of new products in their DR X-ray portfolio with options available for all practice needs.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition will be showcasing Canine Derm Complete, offering a solution for food and environmental sensitivities in a single product, revolutionising the management of dermatopathies. Adaptix will be demonstrating their low-cost low-dose 3D veterinary imaging system and Protexin are introducting DermalEase for Dogs and Cats.
