These journeys are completely unnecessary when there are many licensed slaughter houses across Europe that could take these horses.
The charity and its supporters are making great progress with the on-going Transport campaign (see more in link provided in notes section of release) and so far due to a range of influences the number of horses transported has been reduced by a staggering 100,000.
Today the charity releases its Miles of Pain appeal to reach out to those that care and those that can help - because there are still 65,000 per year that need saving from these punishing journeys.
World Horse Welfare investigators record the conditions that horses going for slaughter endure and capture evidence on film and by photograph, some images are too disturbing to share.
The charity proposes that there is something that can be done.
World Horse Welfare’s voice continues to be heard as the leading organisation keeping this important issue on the agenda of legislators within the European Commission.
By giving this registered charity a small donation you can help them to keep up the pressure on the European Commission in Brussels to introduce a maximum journey limit of 9 to 12 hours, ending the torment caused by these relentless journeys.
You can play your part in the making of history and help to change laws by supporting the Miles of Pain appeal so that World Horse Welfare can stop these intelligent animals from suffering any longer.
You can reach World Horse Welfare on 01953 497239 Monday to Friday from 8.30am until 5pm and donate here: http://www.worldhorsewelfare.org/Appeal/Miles-of-PainMore from
