Feline obesity is a prevalent condition throughout the UK and across the world, leading to numerous secondary medical conditions which could be prevented or controlled by tackling the obesity and returning the cat to a healthy weight. However feline obesity is not an easily treatable condition; it is often hard to know where to start with it and what to try next when weight management plans are not successful. This course, which is suitable for both vets and vet nurses, discusses the many unique contributing factors and behavioural considerations which need to be explored to get to the root of the problem in each case.Including natural feline feeding behaviours and how these needs can be met in the domestic home, the influence of owner attitudes on the lifestyle of the cat and how the cats emotional wellbeing can be improved by optimising its physical and social environment. This course will also provide practical behavioural advice and effective communication tips for your consultations, to help owners maintain their cats healthy weight.Topics to be covered include:Natural feline feeding behavioursUndesirable eating habits and how they can be correctedFeline emotions and wellbeing and how these can influence feeding habitsOwner attitudes and behavioursBehavioural weight management advice for owners
