Point Of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) or Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma/Triage (FAST) have become essential imaging techniques in the triage of emergency patients.
This highly practical one-day course will cover scanning of the abdomen and the thorax and will teach you how to help diagnose (and treat) various conditions in minutes and without specialist equipment. These techniques can revolutionise how you approach your cases in any setting and can elevate your care to new levels.
Topics to be covered include:
Abdominal POCUS including recognition of common emergency conditions such as pyometra and haemoabdomen
Ultrasound guided abdominocentesis and effusion analysis
Thoracic ultrasonography for pleural space diseases including ultrasound guided thoracocentesis
Thoracic ultrasonography for pulmonary diseases including neoplasia, pneumonia and pulmonary oedema
Recognition of pericardial disease and heart failure
Cadaver based practical sessions on centesis techniques for tricky cases
