This one-day course will provide colleagues in general practice with an up to date review of how to approach and practice medical oncology, predominantly in dogs but with reference to feline oncology where appropriate. Starting with the optimal clinical approach to patients with neoplasia, how to reach an accurate diagnosis and the importance of clinical staging. This interactive course will move on to cover the diagnosis and currently recommended treatment protocols for lymphoma, leukaemia, myeloma, mast cell tumours and more enabling delegates to not only treat this cases effectively in general practice but also work with referral centres to optimise results. Full lecture notes will be provided and clinical case examples will be used to illustrate relevant points whenever possible.
Topics to be covered include:
Accurate diagnosis and clinical staging
Paraneoplastic syndromes – their use as clues, common pitfalls and their treatments
The safe use of cytotoxics in practice
Diagnosis and updated treatment protocols for lymphoma, leukaemia, myeloma, mast cell tumours
Tyrosine kinase inhibitors – what are they and how should we use them?
Anti-angiogenic metronomic chemotherapy – is there a role for this in veterinary practice?
