These practical workshops will cover wound management skills encompassing the management of acute and chronic wounds in the horse using a variety of case-based examples and practical laboratory sessions.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided each day. Delegates can book individual days or can book both workshops together.
Course Description Day 1
Day 1 will offer a practical and problem-based approach to management of acute wounds that are commonly seen in equine practice and first intention healing of wounds. The morning lectures will cover wound assessment, diagnostics, surgical options for closure of acute wounds and perioperative care. The practical session in the afternoon will allow delegates to develop treatment plans for commonly encountered wounds and the ability to practice their surgical skills during cadaver-based training under the tuition of experienced surgeons.

This workshop is suitable for veterinary surgeons at all levels wishing to develop their wound management knowledge and skills. It would be particularly useful for those working towards the RCVS CertAVP Basic Equine Surgery Module C-E.5 or Basic Equine Practice Part 3 (C-E.17).
Course Description Day 2
Day 2 will focus on management of chronic wounds commonly encountered in equine practice and management of wounds healing by second intention. Lectures will cover key aspects of management of these wounds including use of different dressings and evidence-based therapies to optimise wound healing, bandaging and immobilisation techniques, options for skin grafting and delayed surgical closure and management of wounds that are not healing.
A cadaver and case workshop session will be held in the afternoon with delegates getting practical experience of skin grafting options and a case-based workshop will focus on management of a variety of different wounds, with delegates being encouraged to submit images of cases they have encountered for group discussion.
