Rabbits are the third most common pet in the UK, but since they are seen less frequently than cats and dogs, gaining familiarity with their treatment is more challenging. As a prey species, rabbits also present later in an emergency and display more subtle clinical signs. In addition, their surgeries are more complicated due to their small size and need for delicate tissue handling.
This course aims to give you confidence dealing with emergency cases and managing patients through surgery. The lectures will describe how to use known surgical techniques and apply them to procedures beyond neutering and cystotomy while discussing how to reduce complications.
Topics to be covered include:
Common rabbit emergencies and how to stabilise them
Anaesthesia - getting the rabbit asleep and keeping it that way
Analgesia - more than just Meloxicam!
Introduction to rabbit surgery - getting the basics right, including neutering and transferable skills
Rabbit abdominal surgery
Rabbit ear surgery
