Innovative new pet loans now available directly to the general public

Christmas is a time for giving - often a new puppy.  But while dogs are a wonderful gift and seem relatively inexpensive, they will actually cost between £16,000-£31,000 over the life of the pet, depending on its size and how much it eats.

If you’re taking on such a responsibility, it’s important to accept both the cost and the care it will need – and to consider taking out pet insurance as soon as you bring your new family member home.

With the rising cost of pet insurance, many owners are ‘self insuring’ in the hope that their pet never suffers a major medical problem.

If it does, however, it can often cost thousands of pounds to provide the treatment needed – money that is not always immediately available.

That’s why a British vet, Dr Stewart Halperin, BVMS, MRCVS, launched CarefreeCredit Ltd., which predominantly provides interest free loans through its network of 700+ practices, and can now provide loans directly to the general public for uninsured pets that need medical attention.

They use a simple online facility, providing loans for clients of non-registered practices from £1,000 to £25,000 for use against any veterinary bills.  Credit terms are offered based on the applicant’s profile and APRs range upwards from 9.3% APR with terms of 12 to 48 months available.

This sometimes makes these types of loans a more affordable option than credit cards or other loans and can help pet owners who either don’t have insurance or who need to pay unexpected additional costs beyond the cover of their insurance.

Dr. Halperin explains: “As a vet, I all too often have had to witness a pet-owner’s decision to put off much needed treatment, simply because they didn’t have ready cash available for the medical help required. Around 75% of British pet owners don’t have pet insurance, so I knew there had to be a way to save lives in such circumstances.  That’s why I established CarefreeCredit, which is now able to offer loans directly to pet owners whose vets aren’t yet members.”

The online application form only takes 3-5 minutes to complete and an answer is given instantly.  Once the loan is approved, the vet is contacted immediately so the treatment can begin as soon as possible.
