Bayer Partners With Professor Ross Bond, Head Of Dermatology At RVC To Create A Practical Canine Pyoderma Resource
Bayer has released the highly anticipated third installment of their ‘Education Now, Safeguarding Antimicrobials’ responsible use guides, focusing on the effective management of canine pyoderma.
‘Focus on Pyoderma’ is authored by Ross Bond, RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology and head of the dermatology department at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC).
Ross comments: ‘‘With pyoderma cases appearing almost daily in veterinary consultations, it is vitally important that vets are well versed in treating cases appropriately and efficiently, particularly to ensure the responsible use of antimicrobials. Canine pyoderma commonly poses diagnostic challenges, due to its varied clinical presentation and tendency to be super-imposed on other skin diseases. We envisage that the article will provide readily accessible, clear and practical advice on diagnosing and treating the condition.
The guide reviews the definition and classification of pyoderma, history taking and clinical examination, diagnostic testing techniques and reviews current thinking on therapy options. This highly practical and evidence based guide is expected to become an invaluable resource in veterinary practices.
The ‘Focus on Pyoderma’ guide launches alongside Bayer’s new Veraflox® website where the first and second responsible use guides are also hosted. They have been written by three independent key opinion leaders; Simon Tappin head of medicine at Dick White referrals and RCVS and European specialist in internal medicine, Matt Jones head of microbiology at IDEXX and Ross Bond RCVS and European specialist in dermatology and head of dermatology at the RVC.
The site also features a host of additional resources in the Vet Training Centre to assist vets in making the right choice when treating various conditions commonly seen in practice. These cover a range of topics and include webinars, case studies and videos.
Hannah Watts, Group Product Manager at Bayer, said: “The new Veraflox® website has been built with the practical needs of vets in mind. We hope this will become a frequent resource for helping them overcome daily challenges in diagnosing and treating cases with an appropriate antimicrobial product.”
The ‘Focus on Pyoderma’ guide is available for download now as part of the Veraflox® website’s Veterinary Training Centre at www.veraflox.co.uk or in print by contacting your Bayer Territory Manager.
