Central Qualifications (CQ) has announced that adventurer, broadcaster and writer Ben Fogle will give the keynote speech at the GQ Graduation and Awards Ceremony next month.

Following the speech, Ben Fogle will present the graduating veterinary nurses and veterinary nurse assistants with their ceremonial scrolls.

The ceremony is taking place at the prestigious Central Hall, Westminster, on 9 March 2024. Learners who recently achieved their Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and Diploma for Veterinary Nurse Assistants will be in attendance from training centres around the UK.

The son of a veterinary surgeon, Ben Fogle has always had a keen love of nature. He has hosted television programmes including Countryfile, Animal Park, and One Man and His Dog and is an ambassador for WWF and a Patron of the Wilderness for the United Nations.

His adventures and television work have seen him travel all over the world, including rowing across the Atlantic with James Cracknell in 2005 and reaching the summit of Mount Everest in 2018.

The event will also include the presentation of this year’s CQ Veterinary Nurse Educator of the Year Awards.

The awards, founded in 2017, celebrate the hard work and dedication of those involved in training and educating veterinary nurses in the UK, from college tutors and practical teachers, to clinical coaches and other members of the training practice teams.

Last year’s winners were Helen Clarke from Myerscough College and Nicola Newman from Plumpton College.

CQ is a nationally recognised awarding organisation for the veterinary and animal-related industries. It was founded on the ethos that training the next generation of veterinary nurses not only benefits the individuals and the practices, but is crucial for the future success of the profession as a whole and ultimately for animal welfare.

Ben Fogle said: “I’m looking forward to attending this year’s CQ Graduation and celebrating the wonderful achievements of the graduating students.

“Veterinary nurses and nursing assistants play a crucial role in caring for sick and injured animals and it will be a great event to welcome the latest graduates.”
