A team from Wear Referrals raised money for the Alzheimer's Society last year
Best Feet Forward For Fundraising Team From Wear Referrals
A team of intrepid walkers from a leading North East small animal hospital will be taking on a mighty mission in a bid to raise money for charity.
Five members of the team at Linnaeus-owned Wear Referrals, in County Durham, will be taking on the Macmillan Mighty Hike challenge on Saturday, June 18.
The challenge will see participants take on a gruelling 26-mile hike around Ullswater lake in the Lake District, starting in the grounds at Dalemain House and following the Ullswater Way with stunning views across the lake.
In completing the marathon effort across tough terrain, the Wear team is aiming to raise at least £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, a national charity supporting people living with cancer and their loved ones.
Darren Stubbs, hospital director at Wear Referrals, which is part of Linnaeus, said the group was looking forward to taking on the marathon mission, having completed a similar hike last year when raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
He said: “Having experienced Trek 26 for the Alzheimer’s Society last year in some pretty tough conditions, I know this will be a challenge for us all.
“However, we’re all looking forward to taking on that challenge and raising some vital money to help Macmillan continue to carry out their incredibly valuable work.
“The team have been getting plenty of miles into our legs in preparation and we’re hoping the great British summer will provide us with some nice weather to enjoy the stunning views around Ullswater.”
The Wear walkers are Darren Stubbs, deputy nurse team leader Christie Short, vet nurse Maren Junior and student vet nurses Melissa Stephenson and Alicia Simpson.
