Territory manager bids farewell after career spanning 42 years
A well-known figure in the animal health industry is to retire this month, after a career which has spanned more than four decades.
Bob Hartley is saying farewell to colleagues at Dechra Veterinary Products after spending the last five years with Dechra as a territory manager in the South West.
The married father-of-three has travelled the world during his career and has been involved in the launch of several new products to the veterinary pharmaceutical industry since the 1970s.
Mr Hartley said: “I've been privileged to have enjoyed a long career in a fast-paced industry which has changed significantly since I started in my first position, which was selling feeds to dairy and pig farmers in Dorset.
“I began working in the animal health industry in 1976, across the Midlands, South West and Channel Islands and my work has since taken me around the world, including in places as far afield as Singapore, the United States and South America.
“I've seen many developments in the animal health sector, including the launch of products including Canaural®, Fuciderm®, Fucithalmic® and Malaseb® and am probably the only person to have once taken an order across some cemetery railings!”
At the start of his career, Mr Hartley was the youngest member of a five-strong sales team by 30 years, and is currently the eldest member of a 12-strong team by 30 years.
Bob Parmenter, Dechra Veterinary Products' UK and Ireland Country Manager, said: “Bob Hartley has served our industry well over 42 years, not to mention the mentoring he has provided to more than 100 people who have been out on the road with him over this time.
“Bob Hartley is an extremely popular member of staff and respected by not only his peers but also the customers which whom he has forged long relationships with throughout his career. We wish him all the best for his retirement.”
Mr Hartley has worked for Vitamealo, Leo Laboratories and Vetxx during his career and finally joined Dechra Veterinary Products in 2008.
He is looking forward to spending more time with his wife, Trin, sons Sam and Ben and daughter, Aimee, during his retirement.1523 views
