Newbury, March 2016 – Bayer Animal Health has launched a heartwarming animation, telling the story of Bob the cat, in order to highlight the importance of microchipping.

The character, Bob, was created by five year old Jake, who entered a competition on Bayer’s ‘It’s a Jungle’ Facebook page to win the chance to have a drawing of his pet turned into a unique animation.

The animation follows the story of Bob, a much loved family cat, who goes missing one day- causing his owners understandable concern.  However, thanks to his microchip, Bob is eventually reunited with his family.

Hannah Watts, Product Manager at Bayer Animal Health says, “We are really excited about the new animation. It is fun and engaging, but also highlights the importance of microchipping as a safe and effective way to increase the chance of a lost pet being reunited with its owner. The animation will be promoted directly to owners via Bayer’s social media channels, and will also be made available to practices to allow them to share the animation with their clients.

The animation comes ahead of new legislation that will make it compulsory for all dogs in the UK to be microchipped.

Hannah continues ‘’While there is currently a focus on microchipping dogs, we feel it is important not to forget about our feline friends. It is estimated that 38 per cent1 of cats in the UK are not microchipped, which really highlights the need for our industry to educate cat owners about the benefits of microchipping.’’

The animation is part of a wider campaign from Bayer to proactively encourage microchipping.  Earlier this year, a series of educational tools and marketing materials were launched, to assist practices in communicating with their clients about the importance of microchipping.  These are available from your local Bayer Territory manager.

Bayer’s microchip brand, Tracer Advance, offers peace of mind; with a fully biopolymer encapsulated transponder, which is 10 times stronger than glass, and a reading distance of up to 30 centimeters.  It is also the UK’s number one choice of microchip among veterinary professionals.2
