The University of Liverpool will welcome British Olympic dressage team captain, Richard Davison, at a two day-conference at Aintree racecourse to discuss equine performance and health ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Richard will be joined by physiologist for the French Show jumping team, Emmanuelle van Erck, and physiotherapist for the Australian Olympic Equestrian team, Dr Narelle Stubbs. Other speakers include senior editor of the Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery, Professor Ken Hinchcliff, and world-renowned equine biomechanist, Professor René van Weeren, from the University of Utrecht. Specialists from the University’s Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital will also present the latest research in equine muscle disease, equine surgery, gastrointestinal health, and orthopaedic health. Experts will discuss training, nutrition and movement of performance horses and demonstrate the new over-ground endoscopy system, which visualises the upper respiratory tract during galloping, at Aintree’s famous racecourse. Dr Cathy McGowan, from the University’s School of Veterinary Science, said: “The conference will provide an opportunity for experts in equine health to collaborate with those leading international teams at the Olympic Games. We will present the latest research findings and demonstrate them using techniques on how to get the best from performance horses. “We will have presentations for veterinary surgeons, physiotherapists, and industry riders, drivers and trainers in areas such as nutrition, exercise, and monitoring equipment ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games.” The event is in support of the 9th International Conference on Equine Exercise Physiology (ICEEP), which will take place in Chester in 2014. The Winning Ways Conference will be held at Aintree racecourse on 16 and 17 June. To register or sponsor the event, please contact Gill Beckett or telephone +44 (0)151 794 6016.
