The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has broadly welcomed the publication of the Government’s plans to reform the Veterinary Medicines Regulations (VMR) in Great Britain. The proposed amendments to the 2013 Regulations follow a consultation last year, which BVA jointly responded to alongside several of its specialist divisions.

Responding to the revised proposals, British Veterinary Association President Anna Judson said:

“We’re pleased to see that the Government has listened to the concerns we raised in our consultation response last year. These are reflected in amendments including the appropriate use of the cascade, the prescribing of medicated feed, and a commitment towards better regulation of online pharmacies. BVA will take time to carefully review the details of the government’s consultation response and share feedback with Government and our members.”

BVA’s response to the 2023 consultation, developed jointly with the Association of Government Vets, British Veterinary Poultry Association, Fish Veterinary Society, Goat Veterinary Society, Sheep Veterinary Society and Society of Practicing Veterinary Surgeons, is available to view here:https://www.bva.co.uk/media/5036/final-bva-response-to-vmr-consultation-2023.pdf
