BVA Teams Up With BSAVA For London Congress

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) is delighted to announce that this year’s annual Congress, under the theme ‘Vets in a changing world’, will be delivered in association with the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA). The Congress will be held at the Royal College of Physicians, London on 22-24 September. As part of an ongoing initiative to provide world-class CPD to BVA and BSAVA members BSAVA will deliver a scientific programme covering feline medicine, gastroenterology medicine and surgery, and cardiorespiratory medicine. Speakers include Ian Ramsay, Hattie Syme and Sue Murphy (feline), Penny Watson, Alex German and John Williams (gastro), and Mike Martin, Adrian Boswood, Pete Mantis, Sophie Adamantos and Jackie Brearley (cardio). Members of both BVA and BSAVA will receive discounted registration and the early bird discount of 10% runs until 30 June. The clinical programme will be delivered alongside the BVA’s popular contentious issues and overseas streams. Highlights include:

• The Wooldridge Memorial Lecture ‘Making a global impact’ to be given by Professor Peter Roeder who led the Global Rinderpest Eradication Programme
• ‘Teeth, feet and reproduction – what next for veterinary services?’ discussing what should be in a new Veterinary Surgeons Act and how we should be regulating paraprofessionals
• ‘Veterinary education – a price worth paying?’ debating the impact of the tuition fee increases on the future of the veterinary profession
• Disaster relief management – two sessions looking at the role of vets in disaster situations, comparing and contrasting man-made and natural disasters

Plus, Professor Richard Bennett will report on the progress of the Veterinary Development Council, and Professor Sheila Crispin will deliver an update on the work of the Dog Breeding Advisory Council.
