Blue Cross experienced a 515% increase in demand to rehome pets in May 2020 in relation to the same period last year and the charity is predicting a spike in abandoned animals due to Covid-19, the state of the economy and people’s personal finances.
Blue Cross CEO Chris Burghes said, “It is incredible to see the amount of entries for the Star Paws competition, which is testament to just how much pets mean to people and how they enrich our lives. We are very grateful to the Daily Star for their campaign to raise awareness of Blue Cross’s work, highlighting the plight of dogs in need and how we can all help to ensure our canine chums are happy and healthy. The calendar is one way to directly support and we hope members of the public love the final choices and will consider buying one or two to support Blue Cross and the tens of thousands of pets we help each year”.
