Humanimal Trust today (21 April 2026) announces that its Chief Executive Officer, Joe Bailey, will step down from her role in June 2026 to take up a new position as CEO of Animal Action Greece

Since joining Humanimal Trust in November 2022, Joe Bailey has led the charity through a period of meaningful growth and impact, advancing its mission to promote the concept of One Medicine - collaboration between doctors, vets and researchers for the benefit of all species.

Bailey’s lifelong commitment to animal welfare began in childhood on her family’s dairy farm in Wales, shaping a career dedicated to improving the lives of animals and the people who care for them. She began her career with the RSPCA as an Inspector in 1994, later becoming Head of Farming, Welfare and Wellbeing for RSPCA Assured, where she helped raise welfare standards in the UK and internationally. A Nuffield Farming Scholarship scholar, her work has consistently focused on the links between animal welfare and human wellbeing.

Reflecting on her decision, Joe Bailey said: “I leave with a mixture of pride in our shared accomplishments and a clear sense of personal purpose. This has not been an easy decision, but my heart has always been on the front lines of animal welfare. My new role with Action Animal Greece will allow me to return to that ‘big passion’, working directly to improve the lives of vulnerable animals, while also fostering compassion and responsibility within the communities in which they live.

“While my day-to-day will change, my belief in One Medicine is part of who I am. I will always be a fierce advocate for the idea that human and animal health are inextricably linked, and I will continue championing collaboration between vets and doctors wherever I am.”

During her tenure, Bailey worked closely with the Trust’s founder, Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, Board of Trustees, committees and volunteers to strengthen the charity’s voice and expand its influence across both medical and veterinary communities.

Last Tuesday (14 April), Humanimal Trust hosted a high-level reception in the UK Parliament - the first event of its kind for the charity - bringing together policymakers, clinicians, researchers and industry leaders to discuss the urgent need for reform to the UK’s medicines regulatory system through the adoption of a One Medicine approach.

Dr Mary Fraser, Chair of Humanimal Trust’s Board of Trustees, said: “Joe has made an exceptional contribution to Humanimal Trust since her appointment in 2022. Her leadership, passion and commitment to One Medicine have been fundamental in shaping the charity’s direction and impact. While we are sad to see her go, we fully support her decision and wish her every success in her new role.”

Humanimal Trust is making interim arrangements, with further updates to be shared in due course.

David Salisbury-Jones, Chair of Action Animal Greece, said: “We are delighted that Joe will be joining us as our new CEO. She brings a strong track record of leadership, a deep commitment to animal welfare, and an ability to connect purpose with practical delivery. The Board was unanimous in its decision and is confident that Joe will provide the leadership needed to guide the organisation through its next phase.”

Joe Bailey added: “I am incredibly excited to be joining the team at such an important moment in the charity’s journey and to contribute to the vital work being delivered across Greece.”
