Seven free online talks to explore the vital connections between human and animal health

Humanimal Trust today (25 September 2025) announced the launch of its 2025/26 One Medicine Webinar Series, a brand-new programme of seven free online talks, bringing together leading experts in human and veterinary medicine.

Running from November 2025 to April 2026 and hosted live on Microsoft Teams, the series will feature internationally renowned speakers exploring topics including cancer research, neuroscience, microbiomes, creativity in science and more. Each 45-minute webinar will include time for Q&A, giving participants the opportunity to engage directly with speakers.

The first webinar takes place on Friday 7 November 2025 at 12:30pm (GMT) and will be delivered by Professor Kelly Blacklock, Professor of Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh. Her talk, One Medicine and Cancer, will explore the intersections between cancer research in humans and animals, and how shared knowledge can drive progress for all species.

Professor Blacklock, who is part of the expert team leading Humanimal Trust’s first major cancer research project, said: “By exploring cancer through a One Medicine lens, we can uncover opportunities for collaboration that not only advance veterinary care, but also inform and improve human treatments. It is an exciting time for truly integrated approaches to health.”

Founded by renowned orthopaedic veterinary surgeon, Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, Humanimal Trust is the only organisation in the UK with the sole and specific purpose of progressing One Medicine. The charity champions medical progress that benefits both humans and animals equally – without causing harm to either.

The series will also feature contributions from voices such as Dr Nicola Mason, Professor of Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Pennsylvania; Dr Barbara Natterson-Horowitz, cardiologist and evolutionary biologist at Harvard and UCLA; and Dr Matt Morgan, Humanimal Trust Patron, Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine, Honorary Professor for the Public Understanding of Medicine, author and BMJ columnist.

Andrea Short, Research and Scientific Outreach Manager at Humanimal Trust, said: “Our One Medicine Webinar Series provides a platform for leading voices in human and veterinary medicine to come together and share ideas, research and perspectives. By breaking down the barriers between disciplines, we can create a fairer, healthier and more compassionate world for all species.”

Upcoming sessions in the series include:

4 December 2025 – Dr Mary Fraser (Humanimal Trust Chair of Trustees and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, University of Glasgow) and Rachel Dean (Director of Clinical Research and Excellence in Practice, VetPartners) – Generating the Evidence for One Medicine.

9 January 2026 – Dr Nicola Mason – Leveraging Cellular Therapies to Induce Durable Responses in Canine and Human Cancer Patients.

6 February 2026 – Dr Bushra Schuitemaker (Zoologist and Humanimal Trust Science Committee member) – Microbiome Insights Across Species for One Medicine.
