A Cheshire referral hospital is pressing forward with its ambition of becoming a training centre of choice after taking on three new residents and six rotating interns.

Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS), in Runcorn, has welcomed three residents on three-year programmes, plus six rotating interns on a one-year programme.

It’s the second intake since NWVS started its residency programme last year, after it became part of Linnaeus, and the 14th cohort of interns.

Linnaeus has 12 referral hospitals which offer residencies across 10 disciplines and recently hit the landmark of its 100th residency.

Joining the team at NWVS are surgery residents Panos Kokkinos and Samar Riziq Picon; oncology residents

Valentina Granziera and Su Wei Tay and interns Eva Garcia, Holly Wilson, Layla Thompson, Maria Lucas, Serena Monti and Judy Soley.

Clinical director Prue Neath said: “We’re delighted to welcome our second cohort of residents as we continue our development as a training centre.

“They are starting out on their paths towards specialism and training in a multi-disciplinary hospital such as ours, under the guidance of our diplomates, will help arm them with the knowledge and expertise they will need.

“It’s an exciting time for us as we continue to grow on all fronts, with increasing caseloads and a training programme which we believe will only go from strength to strength.”

Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) is one of the UK’s leading specialist-led animal hospitals. It offers care in anaesthesia and analgesia, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery.
