Vet Thomas Johnson has just begun his two year Postgraduate Certificate (PgC) Programme in Small Animal Medicine, having won £5,000 of modular training from leading veterinary CPD company Improve International at the London Vet Show in 2014.

As the clinical lead vet at Lynton House Veterinary Centre in Woking, Thomas is involved in clinical decision making across the group's three practices, having qualified from the University of Cambridge in 2003.

Refreshed for 2015, Improve's Small Animal Medicine Certificate offers a combination of face to face and online learning known as 'blended learning', together with a stronger emphasis on practical skills training, case-based discussion webinars and, for the first time,  the support of a dedicated Programme Tutor.

Improve International has a 17 year track record in providing structured continuing professional development (CPD) to veterinary professionals.   Its postgraduate certificate programmes are accredited by the European School of Postgraduate Veterinary Studies (ESVPS) and validated by Harper Adams University.  Its Small Animal Medicine and Small Animal Surgery programmes, together with several of its other PgC programmes, confer eligibility for applications for RCVS Advanced Practitioner status.

Thomas Johnson said:  " I've always done CPD but normally at one day courses or congresses so it's good to have the opportunity to undertake a structured course.  I enjoy surgery but most of my time in practice is spent treating medicine cases, so the small animal medicine course will be most useful to me. I hope it will enable me to provide the highest level of care to my patients and I'm really looking forward to getting started."

David Babington, Managing Director of Improve International, added:  "Studying for a recognised postgraduate qualification enables vets to develop their skills, increase their confidence and help boost the profitability of their practice by referring fewer cases.   We are delighted to welcome Thomas at the start of his course and wish him the very best of luck."

Acquired by Benchmark Holdings Plc in February 2015 and based in Swindon, Improve International provides high quality CPD in a range of formats for veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, receptionists and practice managers to help them to develop their skills and knowledge, using a combination of review lectures, case-based discussion and where, applicable, hands-on practical sessions.
