Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists held their first small animal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training evening and it will be followed by many more throughout the year. Cardiopulmonary arrest is a situation that no-one wants to face, and an optimal outcome can only be achieved through adequate preparation. These CPD sessions aim to help veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses build confidence and enhance their skills in performing CPR on patients.

The evenings involve a talk outlining the latest CPR guidelines, followed by a practical, hands on experience performed on a realistic canine mannequin. Each session is limited to 10 people in order to give everyone an opportunity to practise their CPR technique. The training is provided by our Specialist Anaesthetists Derek Flaherty and Adam Auckburally, once every two months and is suitable for those with little CPR experience, as well as anyone who wishes to refresh their skills.

Adam Auckburally BVSc, Cert VA, DipECVAA, PGCAP, FHEA, MRCVS.

said: “It was a great first session and we really enjoyed the enthusiasm of the group. The initial feedback from the training has been very positive and the vets and nurses who attended took a lot away to use in practice. We’re looking forward to the next one!”
