Manchester Veterinary Specialists (MVS), a purpose-built orthopaedic centre and part of the CVS referral network, opened its doors to patients on 30 January 2017.  Based in Worsley, Manchester, the hospital is led by joint Clinical Directors, orthopaedic surgeons Ben Keeley and Steve Bright, both of whom are European and RCVS Recognised Specialists in Small Animal Surgery.

The MVS clinic is a brand-new facility located adjacent to Pet Medics, the company’s long established 24 hour hospital which is currently undergoing a complete refurbishment.   CVS, the UK’s largest and fastest growing provider of veterinary services, has invested more than £1 million to create one of the most advanced single-discipline specialist veterinary hospitals in the country.  MVS is equipped with the latest diagnostic and surgical equipment, including modern theatre suites, state-of-the-art monitoring and anaesthesia facilities, a Siemens 16 slice CT scanner and is the only veterinary clinic in the UK to own a fluoroscopic mini C-arm to facilitate minimally invasive surgery.  Services offered include fracture repair, arthroscopy, tibial plateau levelling osteotomy, total hip replacement and arthrodesis.

Commenting on the opening of MVS, CVS Referral Director Professor John Innes said: “The opening of MVS is another major step towards our goal of offering veterinary specialist services right across the UK and we are delighted that it is now receiving its first patients.  Ben and Steve have worked together for many years and both are highly respected in the profession.  They have built an excellent team around them and will be working hard to develop an outstanding reputation for MVS in the months ahead.

“Our referral network now includes seven centres of excellence for specialist care and we anticipate further growth during 2017.”

Ben Keeley added: “With the backing of CVS, Steve and I have been able to design a modern facility equipped with state of the art instrumentation.  We are extremely proud of what the team has achieved to date and our aim is to be a centre of excellence, leading the way in our field of speciality.  Our clinic is the latest addition to the CVS referral network and we are excited at the prospect of developing a synergistic relationship with our fellow specialist centres in order to progress advances in the field of veterinary science.  The clinic is fully operational and we look forward to assisting our veterinary colleagues and the general public in the coming years.”

Key to its success is CVS' ability to attract ambitious veterinary staff and to invest in their clinical skills, knowledge and in research to drive the profession forward.  It also provides the business support to ensure its diverse range of small animal, large animal and equine practices achieve their full potential.   CVS' guiding principles include a commitment to excellence in all aspects of its work and a focus on building long-term relationships with its customers and suppliers.  The company works in close partnership with the wider veterinary profession and industry colleagues.
