The crowds poured through the gates and the rain stayed away for Davies Vet Specialists’ Family Fun Day, held last Sunday 10th June. More than a thousand animal lovers, many with their pet dogs, took part in the action-packed day, helping to raise over £2000 for charity in the process. The funds have been divided between Keech Hospice Care in Streatley, Luton and the Worldwide Veterinary Service.
Star attraction of the day was Luke Gamble of Sky TV’s Vet Adventures, whose celebrity status and magic with the microphone pulled in masses of entries to the Dog Show. The ‘Mended Pets’ class was a heart-warming favourite with spectators, organised especially for dogs who had previously received treatment at DVS. It was won by Rosie, a Lurcher who had been totally paralysed with a neck fracture but made a complete recovery.
DVS patient care supervisor Helen Gibbinson’s small animal first aid lectures, which included free first aid kits for pets, proved extremely popular with pet owners and the organised tours of DVS’s state-of-the-art facilities were packed out all day. Visitors were also mesmerised by the sheer animal magic of dog agility and highly skilled falconry displays.
Clive Elwood, managing director at DVS said: “We exceeded all expectations – not only with numbers of visitors and money raised but also with the sunshine! We were particularly grateful to Luke Gamble for his enthusiasm and hard work on the day and we are proud to support his charity, the Worldwide Veterinary Service, as well as the admirable work of Keech Hospice.”More from
