Dechra Academy Launches New Not One More Vet Modules
Dechra Academy has introduced new modules to its free Not One More Vet (NOMV) educational course covering mental health topics for veterinary professionals.
Dechra’s collaboration with Not One More Vet, a leading international advocate of veterinary mental health, was as a result of research1 commissioned by the company to investigate mental health within the veterinary sector and the support initiatives available. The research highlighted that further support was required to address veterinary burnout and emotional wellbeing, with mental health resources and stress management training seen as integral to boosting the wellbeing of veterinary professionals.
The NOMV course is presented by vets who specialise in mental health counselling and each module is focused on a different mental health topic relevant to the veterinary profession. The two original modules cover Flavours of Fatigue and Personality Traps. These are now joined by an additional four topics:
- Client communication: the human side of veterinary medicine
- Professional identity development for students and recent graduates
- Executive function management and mental health
- The science of mindfulness
“Veterinary professionals are at an increased risk of wellbeing challenges with relentless workloads and long working hours often leading to severe burnout, stress and compassion fatigue,” comments Becky Morris, marketing manager at Dechra. “Our strategic partnership with NOMV not only supports mental health and wellbeing among veterinary professionals by offering practical guidance, support tools and awareness training, but it also clearly demonstrates Dechra’s ongoing commitment to the profession beyond clinical support.”
