Dechra Announces Best Case Study Awards
One thousand pounds worth of high street vouchers have been awarded to five veterinary surgeons for insightful and interesting case studies which demonstrate best practice in the medical management of feline hyperthyroidism. Linda Williams of Guild Street Veterinary Centre, Stratford Upon Avon; Kerri Renshaw of Clarke and Marshall, Berkhamsted; Ursula Bollmann of Millcroft Veterinary Group, Workington, Cumbria; Charlotte Cobb of Arden Forest Veterinary Group, Alchester and Elizabeth Lyon, Atherton Veterinary Centre, Manchester, presented cases where Felimazole® (thiamazole) was used to improve the welfare and longevity of one of their hyperthyroid cats. The winning case studies also highlighted the importance of careful adjustment of the dosing regime to achieve good control of thyroxine (T4) levels, a commitment to owner education and a caring approach. Carol Morgan, product manager for Dechra Veterinary Products, says: “Our aim is to publish a selection of these prize-winning studies in the UK veterinary press and to share the information that we have collected with the veterinary profession to aid understanding about how cats respond to treatment. Our congratulations go to the winners who provided excellent examples of how to approach the long-term management of hyperthyroidism.” Thiamazole (Felimazole®) was the first licensed treatment in Europe for hyperthyroidism in cats.
