Elanco, a world leader in developing products and services that enhance animal health, wellness and performance, has pledged a three-year financial commitment to the award-winning national charity, FareShare, to help fight hunger and prevent food waste in the UK.
Just last year alone, the food distributed by FareShare contributed to more than 8.6 million meals and each day an average of 35,500 people benefited through its vibrant network of 700 community projects. Elanco’s commitment will enable the charity to do so much more to ensure hungry people are fed in cities and communities across the UK.
“We look forward to working with the FareShare community projects and depots to help fight hunger and prevent food waste in the UK,” comments Mike Brown, Elanco’s UK and Ireland country director. “Our commitment will provide new opportunities to bring hope and sustainable solutions to people in need in our communities. Our hunger cause complements the work our products do to increase animal productivity and help farmers deliver a safe, affordable food supply.”
In a bid to offer FareShare up to 3,500 hours support per year, Elanco employees across the UK and Northern Ireland will be encouraged to volunteer at FareShare depots and in the wider community as part of two community service initiatives. The first is a long standing Global Day of Service that sees employees of Lilly, Elanco’s parent company, supporting non-profit organisations by dedicating a working day each October to volunteer in their communities. A new initiative launched in 2011 provides Elanco employees with a further four half days spilt across the year specifically to volunteer for hunger projects within their communities.
Lindsay Boswell, FareShare CEO, adds: “We are delighted to be working with Elanco to tackle UK hunger and we look forward to working with Elanco across the country to make a real difference.“
