With over 80 clubs spanning Scotland, from as far North as Orkney to the Borders and Dumfries & Galloway in the South, the SAFYC provides invaluable education, social integration and community participation for young people in rural areas of Scotland. Throughout the year, the SAFCA takes part in a variety of Scotland’s prominent agricultural events which have received Elanco’s sponsorship, including the Highland Rally, Grampian Rally, East Rally and the renowned Stockmanship Programme at Royal Highland Show. These events and competitions are a highlight in the calendar for many members of the SAYFC. Graeme Crawford, Elanco Scottish Area Business Manager, explains why support for young farmers is so important to Elanco, “There’s no doubt that farming is a tough industry and we believe the only way to fully support producers is by providing continuous education and opportunities, beginning with the younger generation. The activities of the SAYFC are essential to rural life and the farming industry in Scotland and Elanco is delighted to be able to sponsor some of their most prestigious events.” The rallies host a variety of activities and competitions, ranging from tug-of-war and other sports, baking, arts and crafts to stock-judging. The Royal Highland Show is a prestigious four day country show exhibiting agricultural produce and services, along with competitions for livestock and other rural pursuits such as forestry, show-jumping and dog obedience. The show is the premiere fixture in Scotland’s farming calendar, with the Stockmanship Programme right at the forefront for young farmers. Members of the SAYFC dedicate months to preparing and practising for the event, where they have to demonstrate their stock-judging skills by ranking both sheep and cattle on various criteria and provide reasons for their choice to independent judges. The events this year drew thousands of participants and visitors from across the country, uniting rural communities and showcasing top-class agricultural expertise. Penny Montgomerie, CEO of SAYFC is proud to work with Elanco, “Our partnership is invaluable in allowing our members the opportunity to participate in competitions that contribute to their ongoing personal development. The Stockmanship Programme at the Royal Highland Show is one of the pinnacle events in our yearly calendar. The skill and dedication that goes into practising, along with the association of Elanco, means winning a trophy comes with great prestige.”
