A renowned Cumbrian animal hospital has been recognised as a gold level cat-friendly clinic (CFC) by the International Society of Feline Medicine.

Under the guidance of registered veterinary nurse and cat advocate, Bex Martin, Linnaeus-owned Veterinary Vision in Penrith has demonstrated an exceptional level of expertise and compassion for its feline patients.

Steps the hospital has taken to reduce stress in cats, both as in-patients and out-patients, include implementing specific cat waiting areas and a separate consultation room.

Additionally, Veterinary Vision team members have to undertake a set number of hours of CPD in cat-specific study.

The practice said Bex’s passion for cats and her tireless efforts to ensure their well-being have played a pivotal role in this achievement.

Bex said: “Our main goal is ensuring that a visit to Veterinary Vision is as minimally stressful and as pleasant as possible for the cat and the client as we can. We strive to achieve this with every patient.”

The ISFM launched the cat-friendly clinic initiative to encourage veterinary clinics to make changes to improve the welfare of cats in their care.

The programme advises practices on how to make their environment as welcoming as possible for cats, as well as providing support in team training, handling techniques and cat-specific client care.

Chris Dixon, clinical director at Veterinary Vision, said: "I am incredibly proud of Bex and the veterinary nursing team for their dedication to our feline patients.

“This ISFM Gold Accreditation reflects our commitment to providing exceptional care for cats, together with implementing best practices in ophthalmology, and it is a testament to the hard work and passion of our staff.”

Veterinary Vision is equipped for all types of ocular surgery with 15 veterinary ophthalmologists offering a vast range of experience and knowledge in small animal, and equine eye conditions.
