The New Graduate Academy set up and run by Malcolm Weetman MRCVS and Darren MacKintosh at Independent Vetcare, has seen phenomenal success in its first two years and is now accepting applications for the highly sought after places available for their 2016/17 academy year.

Last year, the IVC New Graduate Academy tripled the number from 15 to 43, and for this September's  intake has the potential to place over 60 new graduate vets into small, large, equine and mixed practices across the UK.

The continued growth rate is a reflection on the success of the program that has established not only outstanding quality CPD days out of practice for its participants, but sustainable support for them throughout the programme from multiple sources.

All successful applicants are supported in practice by a vet as their Clinical Coach (who will have undertaken Independent Vetcare Clinical Coaching training) and a mentor, such as a head nurse or practice manager.

In addition, Independent Vetcare have a team of Group Veterinary Advisors (GVAs), all of whom are experienced vets and many of which are former practice owners joined the group. This team carries out 6 monthly reviews on a one to one basis, adding in another layer of support and assistance to these young vets, right at the time most vets will say they needed it the most.

But being a post graduate isn’t all work and play, and reflective of Independent Vetcares views on work life balance, it ensures social events are planned into the CPD calendar, allowing for peer to peer support within the academy network and hopefully a few lifelong friendships to be made.

Veterinary students currently in their final year, who wish to apply for a place on IVC's 2016/17 Academy Programme, should send their CV and a covering letter to [email protected].
