A prominent clinical pathology specialist from a leading Cambridgeshire animal hospital has been recognised by her peers for her outstanding contributions in her field.

Elizabeth ‘Butty’ Villiers, who heads the Antech owned diagnostics laboratory at Linnaeus-owned DWR Veterinary Specialists near Six Mile Bottom, is the 2024 British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) Blaine award winner.

Butty’s expertise lies in haematological malignancies and flow cytometry, and she has been bestowed the accolade for her contributions to the advancement of small animal science in all aspects of non-client-facing sciences.

This includes laboratory-based research, pathology and epidemiology clinical laboratory work.

Butty, who has many years of experience of clinical pathology as well as a background in internal medicine and oncology, said: “It’s a great honour to receive the 2024 Blaine award and be recognised by my peers.

“My thanks also go to our team of clinical pathologists, anatomic pathologists, biomedical scientists, lab technicians and residents, who I have the pleasure of working alongside with at DWR Veterinary Specialists, as well as the Antech team.”

RCVS and EBVS specialist in veterinary clinical pathology Butty is also co-author of the BSAVA Manual of Clinical Pathology and has lectured nationally and internationally in this field.
